Killicomaine Blues Reserves 3 Crewe United Reserves 0
Crewe Reserves traveled to Tandragee for the final of the Mid Ulster League Cup Final against Killicomaine Blues. On a glorious sunny evening it wasn’t meant to be as they went down 3-0 to a strong Killicomaine side.
Things started badly after just four minutes when Crewe conceded from a set piece as the Killicomaine midfielder powered a header past Donard Shannon in the Crewe goal. Crewe seemed to steady the ship and Aidan McKenna sent in a great free kick but the header from Carson went just wide. Another cross however proved to be the undoing of the Crewe defence and any one of three Killicomaine players could have put the ball in the net and it 2-0 within fifteen minutes.
It was now an up hill task and despite having the majority of the ball Crewe could not make a concerted effort on the Killicomaine goal. Things got worse when just before half time a third was added which extinguished nearly all hope of a comeback.
Half-time: 3-0
Crewe came out fighting in the second period and did create some chances. Lynas had two great opportunities to pull a goal back but the Killicomaine keeper made good stops. The tireless Jim Carson also went close but it just was not meant to be.
In the end a disappointing result but the team should be proud to reach the final of what is a difficult cup to win and they have had a superb season overall.
