Camlough Rovers 1 Crewe United 1
Crewe United traveled to Mid Ulster League newcomers Camlough Rovers on the opening day of the new season. The home side struggled to cope with Crewe in the opening period with the Glenavy men dominating the play.
New signing Glenn McKeown was pulling the strings in midfield for the visitors and Seaton and McCrory both went close but at the break it remained scoreless. An Aaron Tohill hand ball just before the half gave the home side a free kick on the edge of the box but Tohill made amends and cleared after Sean McCabe parried the initial shot.
Half-time: 0-0
The second half was a more even affair with Camlough providing more of a threat on the Crewe goal. The game was on a knife edge which was highlighted by a few strong challenges by both sides as things looked poised to boil over. However it was last seasons player of the year Pete McCabe for Crewe who opened the scoring with a rasping twenty yard volley which nestled into the bottom corner of the goal with ten minutes left.
The lead was short lived however as Camlough replied instantly after a through ball from midfield and McGrath finished past the Crewe keeper. Mulligan flashed a free kick just past the post in the dying seconds to deny Crewe victory.
Overall it was a pleasing performance as Crewe seek to build on last seasons 7th place finish and push for promotion.
This Saturday Crewe take on Broomhedge at Crewe Park in a local derby with a kick off of 2.15pm.
