Crewe United 4 Broomhedge 1

The first game of the season at Crewe Park saw the Glenavy men produce a superb performance to comfortably win the local derby against Broomhedge.

The visitors started brightly and had two long range efforts just off target. After ten minutes however Crewe broke the deadlock when Seaton beat the offside trap and tucked the ball into the bottom corner. Five minutes later a similar run from new signing Seaton was found by a Scott Mulligan through ball and duly dispatched for two nil.

Half-time: 2-0

The second half was barely five minutes old when Seaton completed his hat-trick after a good run from Glenn McKeown who slid the ball across the box for an easy finish. The fourth goal was the best of the game, coming from a Broomhedge corner. Crewe counter attacked at pace involving Teague and Seaton, and McCabe hammered home from close range.

Crewe should have added more to their tally, hitting the post and missing several clear cut chances, but Broomhedge scored in the dying minutes for a consolation goal.

An excellent performance from Crewe which should give them confidence going into their 2nd Round Steel & Sons Cup game away to Dunaghy this Saturday looking to maintain their unbeaten start to the season.

Crewe Reserves also are in action this Saturday at Crewe Park at home to Killicomaine Blues with a 2.15pm kick off.
