Dunaghy 4 Crewe United 3
Crewe United exited the Steel and Sons Cup in dramatic fashion losing 4-3 to a well organised Dunaghy side. It was Crewe who opened the scoring after just five minutes when from a corner McCrory hit the woodwork and the ball fell to Scotty Mulligan who was hauled down in the box. Seaton dispatched the penalty for his fourth in three games.
Dunaghy hit back mid way through the half after John-Michael Clarke was harshly adjudged to have handled the ball in the Crewe penalty area. Dunaghy scored the resultant spot kick and the sides finished level at half time.
Half-time: 1-1
The second half was an explosive affair. Crewe took the lead when Mulligan again picked up a loose ball, nutmegging his marker and dispatching a tame shot in from 25 yards. Crewe however went to sleep at the back and from the kick off Dunaghy equalised straight away. It looked all over for the Glenavy men with 10 minutes to go as Dunaghy made it 3-2 after a swift counter attack and Shannon in the Crewe goal was beaten from close range.
Another Crewe corner leveled matters with only minutes left as Aaron Tohill opened his Crewe account with a powerful header into the roof of the net. As extra time loomed Crewe hopes were dashed as Dunaghy sealed the win in the last minute from a corner and poor marking enabled the home striker to finish off the game.
It was a disappointing defeat for the Crewe side who will look back and rue the defending that ultimately cost them the game.
This Saturday is a return to league action at home to Lisanally with a 2.15pm kick off.
