Seagoe 1 Crewe United 3
Crewe traveled to Seagoe looking to bounce back from last weeks narrow defeat at the hands of league leaders Seapatrick. It was Crewe who dominated the opening exchanges and created several chances but could not break the deadlock.
New signing Davy Costello and Gerdy Lynas both had opportunities when well placed but could not find the back of the net. As the half progressed Crewe looked anxious having missed so many good chances and Seagoe grew in confidence. Sean McCabe in the Crewe goal however was untroubled and was a spectator for much of the half.
Half-time: 0-0
After the break it was more of the same as Crewe piled the pressure on the Seagoe goal. Only a remarkable save from the home keeper denied Costello’s headed effort. The introduction of Mark Mulholland up front provided more pace and caused the Seagoe defence a real problem.
After 55 minutes Sean McCabe launched the ball down the pitch for Mulholland to chase and he was hauled down inside the box for a penalty. Lynas dispatched the kick with ease for his second goal in two games.
A second quickly followed, Lynas again finishing clinically after good work from Mulholland and a cool head in the box from substitute Biggerstaff.
Seagoe staged a short lived come back after a header reduced the arrears to one goal. Lynas however put paid to any chance of a point for the home side as he raced clear from McKeown’s chipped through ball to add Crewes third and complete his hat-trick.
Overall a good performance but against sterner opposition a more clinical edge will be needed.
