Crewe chalked up another three points as they pull away from relegation trouble with a hard fought 3-2 victory over Seapatrick with ‘Sid’ McCrory bagging two goals.
Seapatrick 2 Crewe United 3
It was a vital win over Seapatrick who had ran title contenders Omagh United close in their previous two games and also beat Fivemiletown recently. Despite falling behind to an early penalty Crewe showed their character in battling back and were 2-1 up at half time.
Crewe’s first came from a thunderous free kick from 25 yards from Chris ‘Sid’ McCrory which rocketed past the home goalkeeper. The second came after Paul Coughlan won a corner and Gerard Lynas found the head of Mickey Tohill to head in from six yards out.
Half time: 1-2
Seapatrick equalised on the hour mark and began to pile the pressure on the Crewe back line. Gerard Duff in the Crewe goal made a couple of excellent saves. However Crewe snatched three points with Sid McCrory scoring with ten minutes to go. McCory drifted past two Seapatrick defenders and fired into the near corner for his second of the game.
Crewe survived a late scare as the home side had the ball in the back of the Crewe net but the referee rightly adjudged a foul on Duff as he came to punch clear.
Full time: 2-3
The Reserves meanwhile bowed out of the O’Hara Cup, being defeated by Hill Street 3-0 in the Quarter final. It was a close affair until Hill Street scored two late goals to progress in the competition.
