Crewe notched up another point on Saturday against table toppers Portadown BBOB. However Crewe will feel it was two points dropped rather than a point gained in a game they should have won.

The opening exchanges were a cagey affair with both teams struggling to find any real pattern of play. Crewe however were the first team to begin passing the ball well and deservedly took the lead after good work from Cassidy and Kelly as Chinta Chisambo nipped in for the opener.

Crewe continued to press but were caught out at the back after failing to clear their lines and Portadown BBOB equalised with a strike from inside the box that flew past Boyle in the Crewe goal. It wasnt long however before the home sides lead was restored when Cassidy again whipped in a ball to the box from the right hand side after some good build up play and Chisambo was again on hand to slide in and guide the ball into the bottom corner.

Just before half time Cassidy had the ball in the net again for Crewe but the referee called play back for a foul on Kelly and harshly dismissed the Portadownn BBOB defender.

Half time: 2-1

Portadown came out with all guns blazing in the second period and prevented Crewe from playing the good football that had been a feature of the first half. Crewe should have had the points sealed on the hour mark after a break from McCrory and Chisambo was through on goal for the hat-trick but was harshly ruled offside.

That decision changed the game and Poartadown got an equaliser with twenty minutes to go after some poor defending by Crewe. The scoring was not over though, and with ten to go Mike Kelly struck a thunderous shot into the bottom corner of the visitors goal which looked to have secured the points for Crewe.

It was not to be however as Portadown snatched a dramatic late equaliser with just minutes to go as Crewe again looked exposed at the back and the Portadown forward cooly finished to share the points in this entertaining game.

Full time: 3-3
