Crewe started brightly piling on the pressure from the off and coming close with a Kempston effort which sailed over. Crewe continued to probe and after a short corner from Scotty Mulligan, Kempston was fouled in the box and subsequently put the penalty away.

Shortly after Derryhirk were caught napping with offside calls falling on deaf ears Mike Kelly nipped in, side stepped the keeper and finished with the outside of his right boot in a tight spot to the displeasure of the opposition.

The third came after a mix up in the Hirk box and the ball fell to the in form Kempston who lifted the ball delicately over the keeper in a fine finish. Although not playing fine football the reserves found themselves 3-0 up at the break.

Half time: 0-3

Managers words still ringing in the Crewe ears they came out looking to put in a more solid display which failed to materialise. The home team went down to ten men shortly after the break with the player receiving two yellow cards in quick succession.

Derryhirk got two goals back in the second half, hitting the wood work at least twice in the process making it a nervy finish for the Glenavy outfit.

Full time: 2-3
