Crewe toppled current league leaders Lower Maze at Crewe Park, running out 3-2 winners with Anto O’Rourke, Scotty Mulligan and Tommy Kempston finding the net. The Reserves also hammered Blackers Mill in a 6-1 rout.

Crewe overcame Gerry Kerrs league leaders Lower Maze in a blood and thunder derby game at Crewe Park. Crewe opened the scoring when new signing from Knockbreda Anto O’Rourke found the back of the net. Just after half time however Maze made the game all square as the tension began to build.

Crewe piled the pressure on Maze and after a good save from visiting keeper Neil Smyth, Scotty Mulligan delightfully curled the ball into the net from the edge of the box. Things then got heated when Kenny Camlin was dismissed for Lower Maze after a head butt on Crewe full back Mickey Riley.

A double substitution from Crewe saw Tommy Kempston and Conor McQuillan come off the bench with 20 minutes to go. Mickey Riley produced a wonder ball from right back into the path of Kempston who fired home after out pacing the Maze defence.

Maze pulled themselves back into the game with a scrappy second goal but Crewe finished the game out and won a deserved three points.

Meanwhile Crewe Reserves made it a great weekend for the club with a 6-1 drubbing of Blackers Mill. Coly Teague was on the score sheet twice, as was captain Aidso McCrory. Gerard ‘Mackers’ McMurray and Chris Black rounded off the scoring and sealed a superb victory.
