Crewe had another weekend of mixed results as the First team fell to the much vaunted Dollingstown side 4-0. However the Reserves kept up their recent good form with a hard fought 1-0 away to Goodyear.

The Crewe First team fell to their second successive heavy defeat however this week showed a much improved performance against a strong Dollingstown outfit. Crewe dominated possession for long periods of the first half but could not turn that into chances. It was on the stroke of half time that Dollingstown broke away and scored to go into the interval a goal to the good.

The second half was much the same story however two goals from Dollingstown early in the half ended any hopes of a comeback from the Glenavy men. Another was added before the end of the game but Crewe must begin to find their scoring boots soon and take advantage when they are on top.

This Saturday Crewe travel to lowly Blackers Mill however it will be a difficult test as 3 points are required to get the season back on track.

The Reserves meanwhile notched up another victory despite being understrength. Aaron Tohill, Morgan Denny, Jim Carson, Conor Hogan, Willy Devine and Colm Wilson were all unavailable for selection. However veterans Andy Rushton and Thomas McKenna filled in, helping with the defensive duties for the afternoon.

In what could only be described as atrocious weather conditions it certainly was not a day for Crewe to pass the ball as winds swept across the rain sodden pitch. The sides were evenly matched in the first half and an unbelievable save from big Donard Shannon prevented Goodyear taking the lead early in the second half.

This save seemed to spur Crewe on and Paul Carson tucked away a penalty after new signing Michael Cupples had been hauled down inside the box. Marty McCartney was then dismissed for a second bookable offence for Crewe and it was backs to the wall in the closing stages of the match.

The win keeps the Reserves very much in the hunt for the title this season.

Crewe’s French playmaker Loic Bouchard was dealt a cruel blow last Saturday as he ruptured his cruciate knee ligaments against Markethill. Loic returned home on Tuesday to Nice and undergoes surgery this coming Friday.

The disappointment is tangible around Crewe Park with the news that Loic has had to return to Nice after suffering the terrible injury. It came in the 30th minute against Markethill as he turned to change direction and twisted his knee. It was clear to see the injury was serious from the reaction of the Markethill players close to him at the time. His loss will be certainly felt on the pitch after turning is some super performances for Crewe.

A hospital visit to Lagan Valley on Saturday evening confirmed it was a serious injury and scans taken in Nice when Loic returned home on Tuesday confirmed surgery was needed to mend the cruciate tear in his knee. Loic heads to Monaco on Friday to have the operation performed.

It is hoped that Loic will return soon and we hope he will be in a Crewe shirt again but for now everyone at Crewe wishes Loic luck for the operation and a speedy recovery.

After a prolonged Christmas break from football due to the weather both Crewe teams were back in action on Saturday. The firsts suffered a shock 5-0 defeat to struggling Markethill but the Reserves managed a convincing 2-1 win at home to Portadown BBOB.

Markethill 5 Crewe United 0

Crewe got off to the worst possible start in Armagh conceding after just ten seconds and things went from bad to worse for the Glenavy men. Two penalties were given away and a serious injury to French signing Loic Bouchard capped a dismal day as Markethill capitalised on a poor performance.

Crewe will certainly have to lift their performance against title challengers Dollingstown next week.

Crewe United Reserves 2 Portadown BBOB Reserves 1

The Reserves however lifted Crewe spirits with a good display of football at Crewe Park. The home side dominated the first half without creating many chances but Donard Shannon in the Crewe goal was limited to a spectator role for most of the half.

The goals came however shortly after the break. The first was made by new signing Conor Delaney as he whipped in a great ball from the right flank to Mike Kelly who floated his header over the Portadown goalkeeper and was just rewards for Crewe’s total dominance of the game.

The second came soon after as the re-signed Paul Lavery swivelled on the penalty spot and rifled his shot into the top corner. Crewe were cruising and should have added to their total however couldnt capitalise. They were made to sweat for the last ten minutes, and credit to the Portadown BBOB team who continued to battle and pulled a goal back. The Crewe backline held firm however to seal a deserved victory.

The win moves Crewe Reserves up to 3rd in the league and continues their 6 game unbeaten run which once again puts Crewe back in title contention.

Crewe United swooped for three players over Christmas with more signings confirmed. Paul Lavery (right) and Mark Tweedie (middle) signed from Kilbride and Conor Delaney (left) from Sport & Leisure also signed. It is hoped Adrian Biggerstaff (Kilbride) and Michael Cupples (St Lukes) will follow suit this week.

Paul ‘Legend’ Lavery has returned ‘home’ to Crewe after a brief spell with Kilbride FC. From recent training sessions it is evident ‘Lav’ has improved all-round as a player and has a lot more strength now after playing regularly for Kilbride.

Also joining from Kilbride is the wing wizard Mark Tweedie. Tweedie can play on either flank and has an eye for goal, scoring in the recent friendly against FC Ballynure. He is sure to add competition and a different dimension to the Crewe attack.

Conor Delaney has also joined the Glenavy men from IFA Championship side Sport & Leisure. He also scored in the friendly and will hopefully add some fire power to the Crewe frontline.

Adrian Biggerstaff (Kilbride) and Michael Cupples (St Lukes) hope to have their transfers confirmed by the end of the week.

Everyone at Crewe welcomes these new players and hopefully they can have long and successful careers with Crewe United.

Crewe United are always keen on improving the health and well being of members and the wider community.
As a result Crewe are pleased to team up with iFit to promote a great idea and help people access the information required to have a healthy lifestyle and diet. Below is a message from the guys at iFit and more information by clicking here for their facebook page.

Well I hope you’ve settled into 2012, we’ve already started with some great sessions already and things are only going to get better.

We have our 2nd iEat Seminar / Q&A evening next Tuesday 10th January, if you intend going to this please let me know ASAP as spaces are limited and it’s already busy busy – it’s open to anyone, family & friends, so if you know of anyone who you think would benefit from this then let them know, this literally is the chance to change your lifestyle for the better, or to improve in your diet / eating habits.

You can train & train, but if your eating habits / diet are not correct – then you WON’T maximise your results / hard work you put in at the training sessions.

The guys that were at the last iEat will tell you it’s an invaluable evening, the tips & advice from the Professionals at the top of their game, with years of experience is something not to be missed. Whatever your goals are, dropping body fat / toning, increasing muscle mass, you’ll be able to bounce questions off the Pro’s – and it’s totally FREE.

For those who have had their consultations already, use this opportunity to come down again and speak to Peter & Donal if you have any queries, you’ll be more aware of what is involved and may have further queries / questions.

iFit will also be running workshops in 2012 to coincide with the iEat – these workshops will include sessions with a top local Chef showing you fast / easy ways of cooking & preparing meals & snacks high in energy / low in calories to aid you in your daily healthy lifestyle, and gruelling training regime, these will be both educational & fun at the same time.

There is also a VERY VERY special Bootcamp currently under negotiation – I’m hoping this will be finalised soon and I’ll advise all details, but this will be like no other – so stay tuned, and keep your fingers crossed, it’ll be EPIC.
