The Crewe members all got together on Saturday night to raise money for Paul ‘Pablo’ McStravick who suffered a treble leg fracture in a match in February. The club organised a ‘legends’ game followed by a Karaoke night in the clubrooms.

The night kicked of as Crewe legends took on a Lisburn Rangers/Lower Maze legends team. From the bygone days at Crewe Jamesy Irwin once again pulled on the red and white jersey and of course the ever youthful Norman Stewart pulled off some stunning daves during the 90 minutes to earn himself man of the match. Some of Pablos brothers and cousins also guested for Crewe.

The opposition also included some ex Crewe men with Chico Mallon, Toni Kerr and Brian Hull dusting the boots off to once again grace the Crewe Park turf. Crewe Legends ran out 8-6 winners in an entertaining game.

Then it was up to the clubhouse for some Karaoke with George and Paula Smith doing their usual Kenny Rodgers and Dolly Parton impersonation!!

It was a great night and a good cause as we raised some funds to help Pablo on the long road to recovery. Crewe would like to thank everyone who helped prepare for the night and all those who helped with the food and on the bar. Also thanks to all the current players who turned out to support Pablo.

Hopefully Pablo enjoyed his night and we hope to see him back in a Crewe shirt soon!!

Crewe United made it only one loss in the last 7 games with another convincing home victory against Fivemiletown. Morgan Denny and Jim Hetherington both grabbed a brace as the Glenavy men secured all three points.

Crewe United 3 Fivemiletown United 0

Crewe got a quick start out of the blocks and piled the pressure on from the first whistle. The pressure paid off when after 3 minutes Crewe were awarded a penalty for handball in the box. Morgan Denny stepped up to slot home from the spot.

Crewe continued to make the running and after 10 minutes Denny doubled the lead with a clinical finish from ten yards out. Fivemiltown looked shell shocked as the Glenavy men to control of the game.

The visitors had no answer to the Crewe attacks and Jim Hetherington, moved to his favoured position of striker, beat the offside trap and he slotted past Ballantine in the Fivemiletown goal. Hetherington made it four just before half time as he beat three men and the goalkeeper as his kept his cool to fire home.

Half-time: Crewe Untied 4 Fivemiletown 0

The visitors must have had their managers words ringing in their ears as they came out with more spirit in the second period. Despite having more of the ball they never really threatened McAuley in the Crewe goal.

However on the hour mark Chris Haggerty was adjudged to have brought down the Fivemiletown centre forward in the box and the visitors converted from the spot. With 15 minutes left the home side gave another penalty away after Bingham fouled in the box and again the penalty was slotted past McAuley.

Full-time: Crewe United 4 Fivemiletown 2

Team: McAuley, McManus, Haggerty, Bingham (c), Mooney, Tweedie (Black 65), Lawlor, Creggan (McCabe 60), Coughlin, Denny, Hetherington (McAuley 80)

Overall it was another good performance from Crewe as they continue their recent good form. Next up is Lisnally Rangers in the last home game of the season this coming Saturday.

Morgan Denny scored his 4th goal in three games as Crewe deservedly beat Dollingstown 1-0 at Planters Park to put a huge dent in their title hopes. A superb effort from the Glenavy men saw them become the first team to defeat Dollingstown in the league this season.

Crewe started the brighter of the two sides as they pinned Dollingstown back and forced them into errors. The first real chance of the game fell to Tommy Kempston after being slipped in by Paul Coughlin but his shot was tipped onto the bar by the home keeper.

Crewe frustrated Dollingstown and McAuley in the Crewe goal was only called into action once as he saved well with his feet to deflect Greggs shot over the bar. The Crewe strike force of Kempston, Denny and Hetherington again combined as Kempston drilled in a fierced cross only for Denny shot to be well blocked as it was on its way to goal.

Half time: Dollingstown 0 Crewe United 0

The second half was an end to end affair and it looked as if Crewe were ready to take the lead after Mark Tweedie delivered a superb ball in to Chris Lawlor who was pulled down in the box and a penalty awarded. Denny stepped up to hit the penalty only to see it rattle the post and go to safety.

However 5 minutes later Denny made ammends. Hetherington once again put Denny through on goal and he nipped in to slot the ball home past the on-rushing keeper.

Dollingstown tried to pile on the pressure but the backline of Haggerty, Bingham, McManus and Mooney held firm. Creggan and Scullion also made superb contributions as Crewe continued to look dangerous on the break when they had the ball.

Full-time: 0-1

Overall a superb performance from Crewe as they stretch their unbeaten run to 5 games. This Saturday Crewe are in league action again away to Bourneview.

Team: McAuley, Bingham (c), Mooney (Scullion 75), McManus, Haggerty, Creggan, Coughlin, Lawlor, Kempston (Tweedie 60), Denny, Hetherington. Subs: Scullion, Tweedie

Both Crewe teams came out victorious on Saturday as spirits lift once again around Crewe Park. The First won 2-1 against Seapatrick after playing most of the game with 10 men and the Reserves ran out comfortable 3-0 winners against Lurgan BBOB.

It took a monumental effort from Crewe to come away from Havelock park with all 3 points last Saturday. Things started well when after only 3 minutes Crewe were one up after Morgan Denny fired home after his initial shot was cleared off the line. It was 2-0 minutes later when Denny latched on to a Haggerty through ball and chipped the keeper to double the lead.

Things however took a turn for the worse when Pete McCabe was harshly dismissed for a second yellow. This left Crewe with over an hour to play and despite being 2 goals up, it looked an impossible task. Crewe held on to half time however without conceding.

Indeed it wasnt until the 92nd minute when Seapatrick did eventually break the Crewe backline and then it was a consolation goal. The Crewe team worked very hard to hang on to their lead, with grit and determination the order of the day and the Glenavy men certainly showed that.

Overall it was a super performance given 4 first team regulars were unavailable and the circumstances Crewe found themselves in. It also makes it 3 games unbeaten as Crewe begin to climb the table once more.

The Reserves also had a super 3-0 victory at home to Luragn BBOB. With Aidso ‘Rory McIlroy with Gardeners Gloves On’ McKenna deputised in nets and managed to keep a clean sheet. Conor McQuillan, Jim Carson and Tel McCarthy all hit the target to keep the Reserves in the hunt for promotion.

Crewe made it four points out of six as they defeated Bourneview 3-1 at Crewe Park. Goals from Tommy Kempston, Jim Hetherington and Scotty Mulligan confirmed the Glenavy sides return to form as they begin to move up the table once more.

Crewe United 3 Bourneview 1

Crewe opened the livlier as they sought to build on their solid draw at Fivemiletown on Saturday. The scoring was opened on 19 minutes when some one touch football played Jim Hetherington in and he was able to poke the ball past the on-rushing Bourneview keeper. Bourneview did not collapse however as they continuted to battle for every ball.

Their tanacity resulted in a chance that was well saved my McAuley in the Crewe goal as he patrolled the edge of his penalty area. On 37 minutes Crewe again scored, this time a low rasping drive from Kempston found the back of the net.

It was only 2 minutes later however when the visitors pulled one back after the Bourneview midfielder cut inside and unleashed an unstoppable shot into the bottom corner of the Crewe goal.

Half-time: 2-1

The second half started with Crewe in the ascendacy once more as they sought another goal to dampen the spirits of the Bourneview side. The goal came after 60 minutes as Scotty Mulligan dispatched a clinical free kick into the top corner and left the visitors keeper stranded.

Crewe kept the pressure on and never looked in danger of conceding again. However the Glenavy men were put under pressure in the last 5 minutes as they went down to 10 men after Chris Lawlor was injured and Crewe had used all 3 substitutes.

Full-time: 3-1

Overall it was a battling performance from Crewe as they continue the return to form. Next up see’s the Glenavy men travel to Banbridge to take on Seapatrick this Saturday.

Crewe United put in a super display against Fivemiletown on Saturday and were very unfortunate not to take all three points from their trip to the Valley stadium.

After a two week break Crewe United got back in action looking to end their miserable league run over the past few games. From the whistle the Crewe tails were up and the Glenavy men looked in confident mood.

The first major incident came after good work down the right from Black and a swinging shot from Tommy Kempston rattled against the Fivemiletown post and the rebound just eluded the oncoming Jim Hetherington.

Crewe’s back four of Bingham, McManus, Mooney and Haggerty looked very comfortable and the home side did not appear to have any answer for Crewe’s tight defence. And again Crewe looked to have scored at the other end as Pete McCabe drilled his shot into the ground and it looked as though it was nestling into the bottom corner until the home keeper tipped it round the post.

McCabe and Lawlor bossed the midfield for Crewe as they piled the pressure on but the opening goal just would not come. Just before the half ended Colm McAuley in the Crewe goal made a good save and this was the only action he was to see all afternoon.

Half time: Fivemiletown 0 Crewe United 0

The second half continued in the same vain as the first with Crewe dominating. Kempston was put through clear on goal but couldnt squeeze past the home keeper and Morgan Denny too had a great chance when one on one but could not apply the finishing touch to give Crewe the much deserved victory.

Tucker Scullion and Scotty Mulligan were both introduced and performed well but the deadlock could not be broken and in the end Crewe had to settle for the point.

Full-time: Fivemiletown 0 Crewe United 0

It was overall a very good display from the Glenavy side and this was with Sam Gove, Mark Tweedie and Eamon Cregan not being available for selection. Tuesday night see’s another league game at home to Bourneview YM at Crewe Park kick-ff 8pm

Crewe United Legends pull the boots on once more this Saturday evening as they take on a NI Oval Racing Select team. Norman Stewart will again captain the Crewe side to raise funds for NI Childrens Hospice. Kick off is 6.30pm with food, drinks and entertainment after.

Crewe are hosting the event which is being organised by a good friend of the Club, Jamesy McCully. It is hoped that a good sum of money can be raised for what is a magnificent cause and the Childrens Hospice give such support to individuals and families. The Charity game will see the Crewe legends out in force once more and the club would encourage all members to come and support the event.

On the evening a Crewe Utd Legends team will take on NI Oval Racing Select, a team including drivers such as Irish Open National Hot Rod Champion Glenn Bell, British and National 2.0 Hot Rod Champion Shane Murray and former European Champions John Christie and Graham Fegan. Also in action will be star names like Ben McCully, Lee McCracken, Chris Gordon, Ricky Shaw, Derek McMillan, Alan Haugh, Steven Haugh and Mark McCambridge. On top of that, photographer Brian Lammey and Ballymena Raceway starter Rodney Arbuthnot will also be donning their boots too!

The match itself will surely be a fun affair, but the lads have all taken it seriously and been training hard each week since January. Kick off is at 6.30pm, with entertainment including a disco, bar-b-q, raffle and auction continuing until the wee small hours. Some of the prizes already pledged are fantastic.

Admission, by ticket or on the door on Saturday night, is only £5, with all proceeeds raised on the night going to the Northern Ireland Childrens Hospice.

Paul ‘Pablo’ McStravick suffered three breaks in his right leg in Saturdays league game against Tandragee. The players and officials of Crewe wish him a speedy recovery and hope to see him back in a Crewe shirt soon.

The injury happened in the dying minutes of the first half when Pablo won the ball but then clashed in a tackle with a Tandragee player. He was in considerable distress and was transfered to the Royal where he underwent surgery on Sunday evening to reset the bones with the use of steel plates.

The injury is a blow to Pablo and to Crewe and we wish him all the best in his recovery.
