Twenty Five years on from the Junior Cup win at Mourneview Park, the majority of the team returned 'home' to Crewe Park to celebrate their achievement and cement their status as Crewe legends. The night was kicked off with a speech from the man who lifted the trophy that day, Paul O'Gara as the rest of his former team mates looked on.
In the background the team relived the whole day as the club played the DVD of Archie Aulds diary behind the camcorder of events from the game. It was great to see old friendships renewed and memories of past glories trawled over and replayed to all who attended the night.
The night was a huge success and was attended also by Lisburn Councillors Ivan Davis and Ronnie Crawford, as well as former club chairman Eric Lyons on the 33 anniversary to the day of his tragic accident at the Ulster Grand Prix which left him paralysed. Also present was Cecil Haffey, charged with the task of installing the new pitch at Crewe Park which is sure to be one of the very best in Northern Ireland. Former players John McFarland and his brother William attended along with our friends from the Park Plaza Hotel and we thank them for all their help both in preparing for the night and on the night itself.
Many drinks were had and stories shared and we hope that one day some of the Junior Cup team will find their way back to Crewe Park and help out in any way they can. There is no question that their achievements will ever be forgotten as they have pasted into Crewe folklore.
As well as the club celebrating the 25th anniversary of winning the Junior Cup, it is also the 25th anniversary of Denis Shephard taking over the reigns as President of Crewe. Having taken over from his father, Joe Shephard, Denis has overseen immense changes at the club and has made a major contribution both in the clubs' development off the pitch, and the significant community work which they have been a part of.
In honour of his dedication, commitment and loyalty over the 25 years, Tom McKenna presented Denis with a momento in recognition of his achievements as Crewe President. We hope Denis has many more successful years as President ahead of him and hope he can guide the club to even greater heights.
